Thanksgiving Tables
The plates you already own are the best place to start.
The collected table is the most forgiving look of the season, and the prettiest. Scalloped white salad plates and floral dessert plates layered on plain dinner plates, gingham and toile napkins side by side, a low run of pompon mums and brass candlesticks at different heights. The trick is one thread, a color family, a material or a motif, running through everything so it reads as gathered over years. Which, between us, may involve three different cabinets.
The Cranberry Table
Deep cranberry against cream and natural linen, with brass candlelight and sugared cranberries down the runner. The post includes a cranberry curd tart and a sparkling rosemary punch the whole table can drink. The berries pull double duty as dessert and decor, the kind of efficiency we support.
Christmas Decorating
Warm white lights wrapped deep toward the trunk, velvet bows in one color, and blue-and-white porcelain hung at eye level, where people will ask about it. The ornament that’s mostly glue still goes front and center.

Everything here is chosen the way I’d choose it for my own home: classic pieces that look lovely year after year, a few splurges worth saving for and plenty of easy finds that do the job beautifully. If I wouldn’t put it on my own table, it isn’t here.
